Police Command decries touting at airports

Despite efforts by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to clear the airports of touts, the commissioner of police, Airport Police Command, Mr. Waheed Salau, has said that touts see the airports as pot of honey.

Speaking in Lagos during the official decoration of 23 newly promoted officers of the command at the international wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, Salau decried the persistence of touts at airports adding that the police had devised ways to deal with the situation.

He appealed to the federal government to provide more technological equipment to combat criminal activities at airports stressing that since the world “is a global village the command needs more technologically advanced policemen to fight crimes.”

“The major challenge we have here is touts; we have always been keeping them at bay…and we will continue to do our best to send them out of this place. There are many challenges and the government is attending to those challenges as there are improvements at the airports.

“The command is doing everything possible to ensure safety at the airports. Our duties at the airports include protecting of passengers, keeping hoodlums at bay, prosecuting touts amongst others,” he said.
