The Nigeria Police Force has issued a stern warning to its officers against lobbying for special promotions, stating that such conduct is unethical and will result in severe disciplinary action.
The warning comes amid a rise in unofficial requests for accelerated promotions following the recent elevation of a few deserving officers.
This was contained in a statement issued Thursday by Force Public Relations Officer (FPRD), a Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Olumuyiwa Ade.
He said the police authorities clarified that the recent accelerated promotions were not arbitrary. Instead, they were part of a well-structured reward system designed to recognise officers who have demonstrated outstanding performance, uncommon bravery, professional excellence, and commitment to duty.
The statement added that the recent exercise does not signal the start of a general or indiscriminate special promotion scheme. The Police Force also cautioned the public to disregard misleading reports suggesting the initiation of arbitrary promotions, labeling them as “baseless, misleading, and intended to undermine the integrity of the force’s promotion process.”
He said the NPF remains committed to “transparency, merit, and due process” in all personnel decisions and officers were strongly cautioned against attempting to influence the promotion process through unofficial means.
