The Kaduna state Police command has burst a child trafficking syndicate after arresting four suspected members of the syndicate led by Malam Shehu Sani and rescuing a 2-year-old victim, Zainab.
The Kaduna state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Mansir Hassan said in a statement signed and issued by him on Tuesday, that the syndicate usually targets underage children and minors, who are alone on the streets, playing or running errands.
“They kidnap the victims keep them somewhere, while they find buyer for the victim before selling them off
“The Kaduna state Police Command under the astute leadership of CP Ali Audu Dabigi, has achieved a significant breakthrough in combating child trafficking. On the 24th of March 2024 at about 1100 hrs, based on intelligence reports, police operatives successfully apprehended a notorious child trafficking syndicate operating within the state.
“The operation resulted in the rescue of one victim, identified as Zainab Abdulhameed, aged 2 years. The syndicate members, apprehended in the operation, confessed to their involvement in the heinous crime. The individuals arrested include Shehu Sani (40 yrs), residing in Ungwan Rimi Kaduna; Tskan Isiaku (43 yrs), also residing in Ungwan Rimi Kaduna; Angela Onazu (44 yrs), residing in Sabo Kaduna and Hafsat Hussaini (24 yrs), residing in Ungwan Rimi Kaduna.
“The modus operandi of the syndicate involved targeting underage children who are alone on the streets or running errands.
“Therefore, parents and guardians should remain vigilant and mindful of the whereabouts of their children or wards. The recent arrest highlights the sobering reality of the dangers faced by children when left unsupervised, even for a brief moment. By staying informed and actively involved in their children’s lives, parents and guardians can play a crucial role in safeguarding them from potential harm.
“CP Ali Audu Dabigi commended the diligent efforts of the Police operatives involved in the operation and reaffirms the Command’s commitment to partnering with communities to ensure the safety and security of all residents, particularly the most vulnerable members of society.
