Police arrest 124 for cultism in Edo

The Edo state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammad Dankwara has said 124 suspected cultists have been arrested across the state, adding that 97 of the suspects were already in court.

The commissioner who expressed the command’s commitment to work with the state government in checking the spate of cult killings and other criminal activities, said 13 suspects have been cleared and released while 14 others were still under investigation.

He disclosed this while addressing journalists in Benin City, Thursday.

Dankwara said: “I want to use this medium to warn all secret cult members of different groups to stop the killings. 

“Also, I want to warn all state and non-state actors and sponsors of various secret cult confraternities who give out their monies, hotels, apartments, drinking joints, as support for clandestine meetings, to withdraw their patronage or be ready to face arrest and prosecution.”

The police boss assured the people of the state that operations to get rid of cultism and other heinous crimes in the state were ongoing and would be sustained even as he urged for the collaboration and support of residents.
