A violent clash between traditional worshipers and Muslim youth in Shimankar community, Shendam local government area of Plateau state has left many injured and properties destroyed.
A report released Tuesday in Shimankar said the conflict began when traditional worshipers passed through the village and altercation broke out with some Muslim youth.
The dispute escalated leading to burning of houses, religious centers and business establishments.
The violence which started Sunday night continued into Monday morning despite the arrival of police officers and soldiers.
Residents including women and children reportedly fled their homes for safety and business activities were forced to shut down.
As of the time of reporting, DSP Atebo Alfred, spokesperson for the Plateau state command, had not commented on the incident.
People in the community have called for increased deployment of security forces to restore peace and prevent further escalation of the crisis.
