The Plateau state governor, Caleb Mutfwang, Sunday imposed a 24-hour curfew on Mangu local government area, following recent attacks that led to loss of lives and properties.
Governor Mutfwang in a statement issued by his spokesman, Gyang Bere said decision was borne out of consultation with the State Security Council, to restore law and order.
“Consequently, movements within the Local Government have been banned until further notice except for security personnel and persons on essential duties.
“Security agencies have therefore been directed to ensure total enforcement of the curfew” he said.
Meanwhile, report said nine persons were confirmed killed in Sabon Gari Mangu.
A community leader at Sabon Gari Mangu, Mr. Datim said, “Armed persons Saturday night attacked a community in Plateau state, killing nine people and razing six houses.
“I wish to commend men of operation rainbow, their swift response brought the situation under control.
“We call on government to support them with necessary logistics for prompt response,” he added.
The information officer, Operation Safe Haven, Major James Oya, confirmed the attack via a telephone call.
“We are here with the Commander Operation Safe Haven, and we are trying to see how to ensure law and order are restored,” he said.
Major James Oya said it was all about communal clashes, with reprisals taking place.
