Planting season: Group urges peaceful coexistence among farmers, herders

As the rainy season begins across Nigeria, the Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has called for harmony between farmers and herders to ensure a successful farming season and enhance national food security.

In a press statement signed by its national president, Hon. Khalil Moh’d Bello, KACRAN stated the importance of peaceful coexistence between the two groups while acknowledging their critical roles in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

The statement issued weekend noted the efforts of federal, state, and local governments to promote a productive farming season and called on farmers and herders to operate with mutual respect and cooperation.

The association highlighted that many security challenges in northern Nigeria stem from farmer-herder conflicts, adding that addressing these issues at the grassroots level would significantly reduce insecurity nationwide.

KACRAN urged herders to prevent their livestock from encroaching on farmlands while advising farmers to avoid blocking traditional grazing routes.

The association also discouraged both groups from taking the law into their own hands, advocating instead for peaceful negotiations in case of disagreements.

The association also commended Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni, for his supportive policies towards pastoralists, as well as the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for their interventions in providing relief materials and water points for herders.

Additionally, KACRAN praised traditional rulers and security agencies for their roles in fostering peace and unity.

The association reiterated its appeal for peaceful coexistence, urging farmers and herders to work together for the nation’s prosperity and leave a legacy of harmony for future generations.
