The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has

backed governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo state, over his comment on Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election.

Wike insisted that high-profile Nigerians like Peter Obi need to inform the governor of any state about his visit to ensure his  security is guaranteed.

The FCT Minister disclosed this on Tuesday in Benin City, during the commissioning of 100 buses for New Edo Line Transport Service.

He noted, “when Obi visited Rivers State while I was the Governor, he secured a permit before embarking on that journey. So, why did he not observe the same protocol when he visited Edo state.”

In his remarks, Governor Okpebholo, expressed his readiness to serve them, adding that they will continue to witness  remarkable projects that will touch their lives for the better.

Okpebholo said he would not be distracted with criticism coming on the social media, following his statement on Mr. Peter Obi.

He clarified that his statement on Mr Peter Obi was not a threat, but advice that was meant for his own good.

According to him “What I said was an advice to him, and it was never a threat… Do not come to Edo without telling me.

“This is a clear statement. I am not here to only work for Edo people, but also in government to protect Edo people and visitors coming to the State.

“I only told Mr. Peter Obi to notify me as the Chief Security Officer of Edo State when coming to the State. Is that a crime?.”

“I remember when I came into Edo State during the administration of Godwin Obaseki.

“The Commissioner of Police asked me to remain at the Benin Airport when I arrived Benin City.

“I came out,and I was attacked at the airport gate; as one of my security guards was shot dead right in my presence,” he said.
