Former President Muhammad Buhari has expressed happiness with President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s instant removal of fuel subsidy, with which he (Buhari) hoped Nigerians would allow him to rest in Daura, his home town.
He said with the fuel subsidy removal he thought the movement of people would have been curtailed.
Speaking on Sunday in Katsina during a dialogue organised by the Katsina Consultative Forum on Drug Abuse at the Government House, Buhari said he expect people to stay in one place after the subsidy removal but Nigerians are still trooping and invading his house in groups.
He said: “I intend to have an easy life after my tenure but people are trooping into my house in Daura in buses on daily basis to greet me.
“I keep on wondering how people use to contribute money and hire buses just to greet me, despite the situation in the country after the fuel pump price increase.”
The former president said, “I suffered a lot in my life, and that’s why I can tell you that I know the bitter and joyful situations of this country.
“I trekked from Bunkudu between one yam farm to another and to the end of this country in our efforts to fix the country.
“I joined the military on my own because I ran away from one suffering to another. I spent one year in Kafin Soli village and one year in Kankia and 7 years in Katsina without my parents. I rejected the employment offer given to me to work at Katsina local government because of difficulties.”
He said in his capacity he will assist the forum in its fight against drugs in katsina, saying Nigerians must unite and protect our young ones from the madness of drug abuse.
The former also president urged Nigerians to maintain trust, respect and honesty in all their dealings as the only way to move the country forward.
