PDP will win Ondo, Edo governorship election – Damagun

The acting national chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Umar Damagum, Thursday, boasted that the party was poised to retain Edo state and win Ondo state in the coming elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier scheduled the Edo election for September 21, 2024, while the Ondo poll is slated for November 16, 2024.

Damagum made the statement while speaking at the inauguration of the National Campaign Committee (NCC) for the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.

While Governor Ahmad Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa is heading the 148-member campaign committee in Edo state, his Osun state counterpart, Ademola Adeleke, is expected to lead 177 members to victory in Ondo state.

In his remarks, Damagum charged the committee members to give all their support in ensuring that the party triumphs in both states during the elections, describing the PDP as a true democratic party.

“The way the two candidates emerged has shown that what our party is about to embark on will yield the desired fruits.

“Edo is not Lagos. We will not sit down and allow anybody to snipe, grab and steal. We will be battle ready and I can assure you that we will take Ondo as well.

“Ondo is already ours and it will be for us to take,” Damagum said.

Also speaking, Chief Tom Ikimi described the party candidate, Asue Ighodalo as capable, saying he only needs the support and cooperation of all.

“I can assure you that our candidate, who is not here at the moment, who is busy in the diaspora is a great candidate,” Ikimi said.

On its part, Fintiri assured that the committee will not leave anything to chance adding: “We should go with all seriousness because we have a low hanging political fruits in the two states.”
