The stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa state have raised the alarm over a purported adoption of a particular aspirant as the party’s consensus candidate ahead of the forthcoming primaries in the state.
The Chairman of the forum, Comrade Jibrin Idris Ibrahim, disclosed this on Tuesday, while briefing newsmen in Lafia.
He said the purported adoption lacked legitimacy, credibility, and the backing of the party organs or wider stakeholders in the state.
He described the development as unfortunate and misleading, saying it threatened the unity, fairness, and internal democracy of PDP in the state.
“It has come to our attention that a few self-serving individuals, claiming to speak on behalf of the PDP in Nasarawa state met at Francis Orogu’s house in Lafia on 10th July, 2025 and have purportedly adopted a particular aspirant as the party’s consensus candidate ahead of the forthcoming primaries.
“Let it be categorically stated here and now that this so-called adoption is false, undemocratic, and does not reflect the will of the majority of party members across the state.
“We reject in totality this charade and manipulation, which is clearly orchestrated to mislead the public and impose a candidate through the back door.
The chairman, however, called on state working committee to sanction Mr. Francies Orogu, the former PDP chairman in the state and the secretary of the North Central zone and other party officials who were promoting certain aspirants to the detriment of others as the action is against the constitution of the party.
He equally urged all aspirants to continue their consultations and engagements with party members in peace and mutual respect, while preparing for the primary election in line with the party’s guidelines.
