PDP dislodges APC in Mayo Belwa state constituency election 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon.musa Mahmud Kallamu as the winner of the rerun election of Mayo Belwa state constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly at the weekend.

The rerun polls followed an Appeal Court judgement which nullified election in seven poling units of the constituency. 

Declaring the election result yesterday at the collation centre, INEC returning officer, Prof. Mohammed Baba Ardo of Madibbo Adama University (MAU) Yola, said the PDP candidate Hon. Musa Mahmud scored 1306 votes in the rerun election against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC) Hon. Ibrahim Musa Italia the incumbent member representing the constituency who scored 874 votes in the rerun.

He explained that the polling units had 5,024 registered voters out of which 2,252 were accredited for the exercise with 2,192 valid votes cast in the rerun out of which the PDP candidate scored 1306 votes while the APC candidate the incumbent member representing the constituency got 874 votes.

Prof. Ardo noted that in 2023 election, the total number of valid votes cast in the constituency election was 20 ,834 votes out of which the APC candidate, Hon.Ibrahim Musa Italia, scored 7,912 votes against PDP candidate who scored 7,840 votes bringing the margin between the two candidates to 72 votes.

He said when the figures of both the election and the rerun election were combined, the total number of registered voters stood at 56,999 while accredited voters and votes cast stood were 24,610 and 23,443 respectively.

He noted that the grand total of votes recorded by PDP candidate was 9,146 votes against that of the APC candidate which stood at 8,786 votes.

He declared, “Hence Hon. Musa Kallamu of the PDP having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared as the winner of the election for Mayo Belwa state constituency.”

Blueprint gathered that Hon. Musa Mahmud of the PDP won in six out of seven polling units where election took place leaving only one polling unit to the APC candidate.
