Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger state has urged the National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) to synergise with the administration in its intervention activities to avoid duplication of projects.

The governor stated this, Wednesday, while receiving the management committee of the commission at the Government House, Minna. He explained that such synergy and collaboration would also save costs for both parties to the benefit of the people.

“I have observed the lack of harmonization of policies and programmes of the commission with those of the state government which has caused duplication of work in affected communities. In order to solve this, the administration has established ministries and agencies to partner and interface with the commission,” the governor stated.

Bago implored the commission to streamline its programmes with those of the state, adding that, “it will be absurd to find out that you build schools where we are also building schools or provide life jackets or life support programmes where we have just done that because of communication.”

Briefing the governor on various intervention projects by the commission in the state, the Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, listed several interventions in the areas of housing, disaster management, water supply, education, rural energy and support for security agencies.

He said that the commission was operating in 17 local government areas of the state with three area offices.
