Oyo: 7 feared killed, houses raze as herders, Amotekun personnel clash in Okebi, Ayete communities

Seven people including a 80 year-old herder were on Saturday feared killed in Okebi and Ayete in Ibarapa North local government area of Oyo state in a clash involving herders and men  of the Oyo state arm of Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN)   Operation Amotekun.

Sources said during the clash, many others sustained injuries while no fewer than 7 houses  were razed with other valuables destroyed.

According to sources in the area,  the clash started at Okebi village early in the morning when some gunmen reportedly invaded the village and shot a 80years old  man with his two children to death sparkling up violent protest by other herders at Okebi village .

The crisis that erupted at the village over the killing of the 80year old man and his two children quickly spread to the nearby Ayete town during which a violent clash reared its head between the herders said to be kinsmen of the shot 80years old man and the Amotekun personels in the town.

Oyo state Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Lawrence Fadeyi in a statement said, “when the DPO of Ayete got wind of the incident, he moved in swiftly to ascertain the cause of the attack”

The PPRO added, ” in his report, three persons has died and two injured. He has since commence investigation and further development will unfold soonest”.

Oyo state Chairman of Miyeti  Allah, Alhaji Ibrahim Jiji while speaking on the clash confirmed the killing of the 80years old herders and his two sons allegedly by the Amotekun personels at Okebi village on Saturday morning.

Alhaji Jiji while stressing that herdsmen in Ibarapaland were not attacking  Amotekun personels as claimed alleged  that it was the Amotekun men that  invaded the Okebi village and and other parts of Ibarapa North local government allegedly attacking  the herdsmen

He then urged the state government and Gov Seyi Makinde  to wade into the matter  and ensure that peace returned to Ibarapa area of the state .
