Over 7m people exposed to poor air quality

In other to combat air pollution, the Federal Ministry of Environment join the world to celebrate the world Environment Day, with the theme  ‘Air Pollution’.

The permanent secretary of the Federal ministry of environment said that an estimated 7 million people worldwide die untimely directly or indirectly to poor air quality.

Speaking at the world environment day, she was represented by the director of Human resource management, Daniang Peter, 92% of the world population breath unclean air and this has cost the global economy a whooping USD 3.5 trillion on yearly basis. 

According to her, Ozone layer depletion has over the years gradually exacerbates the ever increasing world temperature with the resultant effects on agriculture, human health and biodiversity in general.

” The low sulphur policy and Ozone friendly Refrigeration policy are geared towards reversing the adverse effects of both land and air pollution with the resultant effects on the population, ecosystem and economy,” she stressed.

Responding, director of planning research and statistics in the ministry, Dr. Bolatito Obisesan stated that the world has accepted that our collective efforts required to beat Air Pollution.

‘It is important for healthy and sustainable living that the preventive measures are enforced to ensure safe environment for the population to live.
