Kebbi state government has said that it would continue to sponsor its indigenes to study at top Universities abroad.
Governor Atiku Bagudu stated this during an interactive session with indigenes working with Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto.
He said the aim was to enable the state compete favourably with its contemporaries across the country.
The governor maintained that to achieve the objective, his administration had mapped out plans in that regard.
He, however, lamented that despite the huge resources invested in the education sector by the previous government in the state, the result had not been appreciable.
Bagudu said the state had recorded mass failure during previous WAEC/ NECO examinations as a result of poor teaching techniques among teachers in public schools, adding that his administration had identified the problem and was working to make corrections.
He told the University dons that the state civil service was not functioning and that that necessitated the verification of its entire workforce.
He said his administration had already entered into an agreement with Lagos state government and that after harvests, the farm produce would be taken to Lagos, being the largest market in Africa.
Earlier speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, described the session as the “first of its kind” and commended the foresight of the governor in that direction.
