Our corporate social responsibility still formidable – KEDCO

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Dr. Jamilu Gwamna, has said that corporate social responsibility would remain the major cardinal thrust of the electricity distribution company.
He stated this yesterday when he paid an assessment visit to the proposed site for Women Literacy Centre located at Dausayi village in Gezawa local government area of Kano state.
Gwamna said assisting the less-privileged to acquire western education through reading and writing would be a stepping stone towards achieving the goals of socioeconomic prosperity.
“Corporate social responsibility is a herculean task that must be shouldered with clear sincerity of purpose and organisations like KEDCO are under no obligation to shirk their responsibilities,” he said, adding that “assisting lessprivileged women to be literate is in line with the norms and values of the electricity distribution company since its inception.” He said: “Most of the women you are seeing here cannot read and write.
We are here on a fact-finding mission to assess the level of commitment expected from us as a corporate body.
We are expected to sink a total sum of about three million naira in making the proposed literacy centre befitting and conducive for adult education.
“When the project is completed, teaching and learning activities would commence in earnest we want residents of this village to fully understand our mission of transforming their lives from the state of ignorance to literacy.” In his remarks, the Village Head of Dausayi, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammad, said residents had been appreciative of the immense gesture conceived to improve their lives by KEDCO.
According to him, the issue of corporate social responsibility should be strengthened for improved human welfare, especially that women in the village are in dire need of consistent humanitarian services.
