Osun monarch, 4 others in court for alleged arson, robbery

The Elegbedi of Egbediland in Egbedore local government, Osun state, Oba Muideen Azeez, and four others, were dragged to court, Wednesday, for alleged robbery and setting a palace ablaze.

Also, one Akibu Abioye, Yisa Akolapo, Rasidi Ayandiran and Sarafadeen Abioye, appeared before Justice Kudirat Akano of the state high court sitting in Ede on 29-count charges bordering on arson, robbery, threat to life, illegal possession, forceful entry, destruction of farm produce and malicious damage.

The defendants were said to have committed the alleged offences between September 2019 and May 2022 at Opeoluwa Integrated Farming Resources Limited Aloba, via Ede.

The prosecutor, Dele Akintayo, alleged that the defendants set ablaze the palace of Oloba of Iloba, Oba Lasisi Gbadamosi, robbed one Wasilatu Akiola of 70kegs of palm oil, goats and farm produce, and also destroyed 127 acres of farm produce belonging to Opeoluwa Integrated Farming Resources.

The offences, according to the charge sheet contravened the provision of sections 402, 403A, 443, 2(1), and 249(1) of the State Criminal Law, 2002.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the suit number HED/02c/2024 and pressed against them by the state.
