A Magistrate Court, sitting in Osogbo, Osun State capital, on Wednesday, remanded a 25-year-old man, Abdulahi Adeyemi, in prison, for allegedly raping a minor.
The accused person was alleged to have indecently assaulted a 7-year-old girl, Oladepo Fausat. He was alleged to have had canal knowledge of the girl and thereby committed an offence contrary to the law.
The alleged offence, according to the charge sheet, contravened the provision of Section 360 and 218 of the criminal code, Cap 34, Vol 11, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
Meanwhile, the accused pleaded not guilty to the allegation of rape, preferred against him by the police.
His Counsel, Mr. A. A. Alayokun, urged the court to grant the accused bail, noting that the allegation has not been proved against him. He said the accused is entitled to bail until the allegation is proved against him.
The Magistrate, Mr Olusegun Ayilara, ordered that the accused be remanded in Ilesa prison. He directed Counsel to the accused to file a formal application for the bail of his client.
Magistrate Ayilara thereby adjourned the matter to January 30, 2019 for mention.
