Operation Velvet: FCT police raid black spots, nab 307 

As part of the on-going clampdown on criminal elements tagged ‘Operation Velvet’, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police has raided some black spots in the territory leading to the arrest of 307 suspects.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, SP Josephine Adeh, in a press statement, Thursday, in Abuja, said: “Following the coordinated raid operation by the tactical teams of the FCT Police command, led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igweh, on  February 11, 2024 at Gidan-Dambe, Dei-dei – Zuba, Abuja, where 307 suspects were arrested, the suspects were screened and 170 of them were found wanting.

“A hundred and sixty-five of the suspects found wanting were promptly profiled by the police operatives and arraigned in the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) Mobile Court in Area 3, Garki District, Abuja for simple/misdemeanor offences, while the remaining five namely: Al zuma Aliyu, Mohammed Yakubu; Ishiaku Yakubu; Abubakar Lawal; and Abba Mohammed; were charged for felonious offences including armed robbery and peddling of illicit/hard drugs.”
