Kaduna Electric has refuted claims by labour unions that 900 workers of the company were sacked during its recent staff restructuring, clarifying that only 450 employees were affected.

In a statement on the official X social media handle of the distribution company, signed by its  management, the company explained that the restructuring was part of a necessary process to address its operational and financial challenges, aiming to ensure the long-term sustainability of the business.

“The decision to issue ‘services no longer required’ letters was driven by the need to align the company’s workforce with current market realities and improve operational efficiency.

“We confirm that the claims of 900 affected workers are inaccurate. In reality, 450 staff members were impacted by the restructuring, a decision made after careful consideration of our current challenges,” the statement read.

Kaduna Electric further emphasised that the restructuring was a difficult but essential step to streamline its operations, ensure sustainability, and continue providing reliable power supply to its customers.

The company also expressed regret over the prolonged power outages caused by the ongoing industrial action, which lasted for more than 24 hours in some areas. It assured its customers that efforts are being made to resolve the dispute and restore normal operations swiftly.

The company thanked security agencies for their support during the industrial action, ensuring the safety of its personnel and facilities.

It expressed the commitment to overcoming its current difficulties and continuing to serve its customers with improved efficiency.
