A Lagos state Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court, Ikeja, Wednesday convicted and sentenced a-one-chance driver, Valentino Andrew, to 12-year imprisonment for an amended three-count charge.
The judgment delivered by the court followed the defendant’s plea bargain agreement to the amended three-count charges of stealing, felony and demand by menace.
Valentino was initially arraigned for armed robbery along with two others, Michael Idoko and Onwudiwe Tony, before Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe.
The three defendants pleaded not guilty to the three charges.
One of the defendants, Valentino, was subsequently re-arraigned and he pleaded guilty to the amended three-count-charges.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Abike-Fadipe, asked Valentino if he opted for a plea bargain due to threat, force or a promise of anything, and he said no.
She confirmed that he consented voluntarily to the plea bargain.
The judge held that the court is not bound to the agreement terms of the plea bargain.
The convict committed the offence in 2020, operating between Lekki-Epe to Iyana-Oworo of Lagos state.
The offences contravene Section 406,301, 287 of the laws of Lagos 2015.
Hence, the court sentenced him to 12 years, to run concurrently beginning from June, 2020.
