The Edo state governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the nomination of four commissioner-designates.
The nominees are: Barr. Nosa T. Adams, Yakubu Oshiorenua Musa, Dr. Felix Ehiguese Akhabue and Prof. Omorodion Ignatius Ikponmwosa
The announcement of the nominees was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Musa Ikhilor.
The commissioner-designates, if cleared by the House of Assembly, will bring to 13 the number of commissioners in the governor’s cabinet.
Okpebholo had only appointed nine commissioners since he was inaugurated on November 12, 2024.
Blueprint observed that the commissioner appointments, including the nominees, made so far by the governor, still fall below the requirements of a possible 18, with a nomination each from the 18 local government areas of the state.
However, the legal Adviser to the governor, Andrew Ewanta, had dismissed claims that Governor Monday Okpebholo was awaiting the now Supreme Court ruling on the September 21, 2024 governorship election before appointing other cabinet members.
Ewanta emphasised that Okpebholo had not committed any constitutional breach because, according to him, he had appointed commissioners and special advisers to other key ministries.
“Heads of agencies have been appointed. The government is moving at full throttle. Some people joined the APC from the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party. We have to accommodate them too,” he said.
