Ogun: NUJ confirms broadcast journalist’s demise at home

A female journalist, Bukola Agbakaizu, who works with the Ogun state television (OGTV) was declared dead on arrival at the Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta after she collapsed at her home in Kemta area of Abeokuta. 

This was contained in statement issued by the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Ogun state council’s secretary, Bunmi Adigun. 

According to the statement, Agbakaizu, a former ex-officio of the state council tragically collapsed while preparing for her afternoon shift, and all efforts to revive her prooved abortive. 

“A versatile journalist and a passionate comrade, Bukola served as a former Vice Chairman of OGTV Chapel and was an invaluable member of the Wale Olanrewaju-led Executive.

“Her vibrant spirit and commitment to journalism will be sorely missed, leaving an irreplaceable void in our community.  

“She is survived by her two children, her aged mother, and countless colleagues and friends who mourn her loss.

“Bukola Agbakaizu was 52 years old at the time of her passing.  

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family during this difficult time”, the statement reads

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in Ogun state described Agbakaizu demise as a rude shock, stating that she will solely missed by the association she served meritoriously. 

The statement signed by the chairperson, Sekinat Salam added that “As a dedicated member of NUJ, Ogun State Council and NAWOJ, Ogun State chapter, the mother of two will be sorely missed by all. Her compassion towards others, dedication, love and passion for the pen profession will always be remembered and cherished by all”.
