Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon in a deal worth an initial £55 million, potentially rising to £64 million with add-ons.
The 27-year-old forward, who netted 39 goals last season to lead Sporting to the Portuguese league title, also recorded a Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City. Gyokeres has signed a five-year contract and becomes the Gunners’ sixth major acquisition of the summer.
Arsenal announced the signing on Saturday with a post on X, stating: “This is where you need to be. Viktor Gyokeres is a Gunner.”
Gyokeres joins a growing list of summer arrivals, including Cristhian Mosquera (£13m), Martin Zubimendi (£60m), Kepa Arrizabalaga (£5m), Christian Norgaard (£10m), and Noni Madueke (£48.5m). The total summer spending by the North London club now exceeds £200 million.
Gyokeres will link up with Mikel Arteta’s squad during their ongoing pre-season tour of Asia, with upcoming fixtures against Newcastle in Singapore and Tottenham in Hong Kong.
The Swede began his senior career at Brommapojkarna before spells at Brighton, St Pauli, Swansea, Coventry, and most recently Sporting, where he scored an astounding 97 goals in 102 appearances.
Arsenal, who finished second in the Premier League last season and suffered from attacking injuries, hope Gyokeres’ arrival will boost their title ambitions. Sporting Director Andrea Berta has also overseen new contracts for Gabriel and Myles Lewis-Skelly, with a deal for teenage star Ethan Nwaneri reportedly imminent.
