NYSC trains 37 gender desk officers on equality

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has trained 37 Gender Desk Officers of the scheme on ways of discouraging gender discrimination and advocating equality in their respective places.
This was announced at a one-day 2018 NYSC gender mainstreaming workshop, declared open by the Director General of NYSC Brig.-Gen. Sule Kazaure, yesterday in Keffi local government area of Nasarawa state. Blueprint reports that the participants were NYSC Gender Focal Officers from each state of the federation, including the FCT, Abuja. The Director General, who was represented by the NYSC Head of Reforms Unit, Mrs. Adetokunbo Idowu, said the workshop was to empower and expose NYSC gender desk officers on gender matters with the anticipation that their contributions will help to drastically reduce discrimination among men and women while advocating equality for all.
Kazaure assured that a society devoid of gender discrimination will lay strong and healthy foundations for the country’s sustainablegrowth and development; hence the need for the desk officers to step down what they learnt at the workshop in their various states. “Nothing that NYSC strives to give both male and female corps members the opportunity to participate fully in all its programmes as it would guarantee equal access to corps members in both social and economicwealth creation opportunity that affords them full participation inthe process of national development,” he said.
