NYSC coordinator wants Corp members to acquire skills in camp

Rivers State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Coordinator, Mr. Chinwendu Chukwu, has advised corps members to take advantage of the nine-day intensive skill acquisition training on camp to unlock their hidden potentials and creativity towards acquiring a skill that would launch them to becoming Chief Executive Officers of their own businesses and brand.

He gave the advice at the NYSC camp, Nonwa-Gbam Tai during the opening ceremony of 2019 Batch ‘C’ stream 2 Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, (SAED) sensitisation for corps members deployed to the State.
Mr. Chukwu said the NYSC Management in her wisdom introduced the SAED programme in 2012 as a gateway to empower corps members to become wealth creators and eliminate the ugly trend of post service unemployment ravaging the country.
He noted that thousands of corps members have benefitted from the SAED programme since its inception in 2012 which has made them to realize their dream of becoming the CEOs of their businesses.

The NYSC Rivers State boss called on the corps members to choose a skill of their choice from the 12 different skill sets from which they will be trained on one of them by the master trainers and thereafter build on it, noting that even after the orientation course, arrangements have been made for them to continue with their training post camp.
He charged them to be focused, committed and determined to be empowered through active participation in the training classes by avoiding all forms of distractions that will divert their attention from the training.

Mr. Chukwu further stated that China which is the leading economy in the world today achieved the level where they are now because they embraced practical education and orientation through skill acquisition over theory-based education.
Mr. Chukwu assured the corps members of the availability of NYSC staff such as the Head of SAED branch, the ZIs and LGIs to guide and direct them at any point in time they may encounter challenges in the course of their training either on camp or post camp.

Earlier, the SAED Officer NYSC Rivers State, Mr. D.O Eze, appreciated the state coordinator for his tremendous support to the activities of the SAED committee which has made their work smooth-sailing and successful at all times.
He informed the corps members that the training expenses have been fully paid for them for their camp training and urged them to take the training very seriously.
The SAED opening ceremony witnessed motivational talks by Mr. Wisdom Osiri and Dr. David Ntewuse, while Mrs. Sylvia Barikulaa of the National Directorate of Employment delivered the EDP lecture.
