Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zone D, Comrade Chris Atsaka, has commiserated with Benue state chapter of the Correspondents’ Chapel over the demise of its member and The Guardian correspondent, Mr. Joseph Wantu.
Atsaka, who is also caretaker chairman in charge of NUJ Benue Council, in company of Benue state chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) John Shiaondo, Chairman Radio Benue chapel, Paul Mandeun and publisher of The Prime newspaper, Samuel Ogbaji, had earlier paid a condolence visit on the deceased Guardian correspondent’s family.
Mr. Wantu passed on, Tuesday, September 13 at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) following a brief illness.
Comrade Atsaka who is in charge of Zone D paid a condolence visit to the Correspondents’ chapel Wednesday, described the death of the Guardian Correspondent as ‘unfortunate’, adding that it is ‘devastating’.
He attested to the character of Wantu as a peaceful person, noting that he played the role of an elder.
Atsaka prayed God to give the chapel and the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Responding, the Correspondents’ Chapel chairman Tor Vande Acka appreciated the vice president for the visit, noting that he was the first to do so.
Acka said the news of Wantu’s death came as a shock, narrating that he had just left his bedside for the doctors to do the ward round when he was called back soon after and told that he had passed on.
