NSE: Bears return as stock market sheds N56bn

Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange yesterday returned to bearish trend, dropping by N56 billion. The market capitalisation dropped by 0.61 per cent to N9.172 trillion from N9.228 trillion traded on Monday. Also the NSE All Share Index fell by 163.29 basis points to 26655.48 points from 26818.77 points traded the prvious day.

Investors bought 396.030 million shares valued at N2.657 billion in 5513 deals against 329.998 million shares worth N2.105 billion in 4524 deals. A review of the investment during the day showed that Nestle Nigeria Plc led gainers table for the day, increasing by N3.00 to close at N725.00, Nigerian Breweries followed with a gain of N2.02 kobo to close at N125.02 kobo, Conoil gained N1.99 kobo to close at N23.00,

Union Dicon Salt also advanced by N0.66 kobo to close at N13.86 kobo while Flour Mills Nigeria Plc added N0.50 kobo to close at N23.50 kobo. On the contrary, Forte Oil topped losers chart, dropping by N19.68 kobo to close at N205.32 kobo, Total Plc trailed with a loss of N5.00 to close at N170.00, Unilever Nigeria Plc fell by N1.55 kobo to close at N32.80 kobo, Zenith Bank Plc dipped by N0.59 kobo to close at N14.44 kobo while Vitafoam Nigeria Plc depreciated by N0.47 kobo to close at N4.43 kobo.

Further analysis indicated that United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of activities, exchanging 65.765 million shares worth N265.864 million, Access Bank followed with account of 55.894 million shares valued at N288.806 million, Transnational Corporation of Nigeeria (Transcorp) sold 41.932 million shares cost N48.658 million, Oando Plc traded 34.514 million shares cost N209.459 million and Zenith Bank exchanged 33.948 million shares valued at N571.246 million.
