Barau Football Club has announced the adoption of the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, as its home ground for the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
In a statement issued by the club’s media officer, Ahmad Hamisu Gwale, the decision followed approval from the Kano state Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
The Sani Abacha Stadium, which also serves as the home of NPFL four-time champions, Kano Pillars, will temporarily host the Maliya Boys until renovations at their original home, Dambatta Stadium, are completed.
Speaking to Arewa Radio, Barau FC Chairman, Ambassador Ibrahim Shitu Chanji, confirmed the temporary relocation, explaining that the move is necessary while renovation work continues at Dambatta Stadium.
“Our fans should rest assured that Barau FC will use the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, as a temporary home ground until the Dambatta Stadium renovation is completed,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to the Kano State Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as the General Manager of Kano Pillars, Ahmed Musa, for their support and cooperation in facilitating the arrangement.
Dambatta Stadium, located in Kano and serving as Barau FC’s traditional home ground, is currently undergoing extensive upgrades to meet NPFL standards.
The renovation is being funded by the club’s sponsor, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin.
Barau FC will kick off their NPFL 2025/2026 campaign with a highly anticipated clash against nine-time NPFL champions, Enyimba FC.
The new Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season is scheduled to kick off at the end of August this year 2025.
