The Nigerian film industry has been hit with sadness following the passing of Nollywood actress Omotola Odunsi.
Her death was confirmed by fellow actor Akinola Akano, popularly known as Segbowe, who took to Instagram on Thursday to express his grief. In an emotional tribute, Segbowe shared a screenshot of his final conversation with Omotola, in which she had said she was feeling better after an illness.
“Motola! Strange but I tried checking on you at the wee hours of that morning. You said you were FINE & BACK! This is a rude shock, Omotola! Journey well, sister. God be with your family,” he wrote.
Renowned actor Odunlade Adekola, who mentored Omotola in the industry, also reacted with disbelief, posting: “Jesus Christ. RIP Omotola.”
Omotola Odunsi was known for her roles in several Yoruba-language films, including Lisabi: The Uprising, Officer Adaeze, Amonata, Ayanmo Ire, and Ifedayo.
Her death has left fans and colleagues heartbroken, with many describing her as a promising talent gone too soon.
