No going back on agitation for Yoruba nation – Akintoye

The  leader of  the foremost Yoruba self determination group, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Prof Banji Akintoye, has insisted that there will be no going back in his determination to intensify efforts on the agitation for a Yoruba nation.

This was contained in a statement signed by the body’s interim General Secretary, Prince Kunle Adelakun Eruobodo, and issued to journalists in Ibadan.

The statement quoted Prof Akintoye as also saying he would not allow bad elements to frustrate the aspiration of having a Yoruba nation. 

The statement stressed that the foremost historian further expressed his readiness to go ahead with the agitation, saying: “Akintoye vowed to continue the Yoruba Nation agitation and promised not to abandon Ilana Omo Oodua.”

Also, it indicated that a new constitution mid wived by the Constitution review has been approved for the foremost Yoruba self determination group, adding that “the Ilana Constitution Review Committee members, the group’s state coordinators and the Ilana Worldwide Interim Executive Council travelled to meet Prof. Banji Akintoye in Cotonou on Friday, January 6.

” We are using this medium to inform the general public that Ilana Omo Oodua, led by Prof. Banji Akintoye, will never abandon the Yoruba nation’s self determination struggle nor would it compromise its stand. We implore the media to be wary of the elements who are parading themselves as the official representative or spokesman for the Ilana. Ilana Omo Oodua would not be liable for any act, illegally committed by impostors.

“This meeting was not a secret or private meeting but a meeting to present a newly approved constitution by the Ilana congress which was held on Friday, 30th December 2022, at the Ilana Worldwide secretariat and via zoom.”
