The National chairman of Labour Party (LP), Comrade Julius Abure, has said members of the party would decide who becomes the party’ flag bearer in Edo state governorship election scheduled for 2024; declaring that he has no preferred candidate.
This was just as the party chair disclosed that the LP doors were open to new comers because according to him, the more, the better.
He said the endorsement of a particular candidate amongst others would amount to likening the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (APC) “where there’s absence of internal democracy”.
Abure who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City said: “LP is built on equal opportunity and social justice. So members would choose a candidate with pedigree, competency and character”.
Continuing, he stated that he was in the State to appreciate the party leadership and members for the feat they achieved during the 2023 national and state assemblies election.
He said, “I started the appreciation from my ward 3 because I won all the elections there. My ward was a PDP stronghold, I vote in the same unit with late Tony Anenih in Esan North East Local government area of Edo state.
“And for the first time in Edo state, Labour Party won 79 percent of the presidential election”, he stated.
