The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Refereeing Development Committee, has stepped down two Anambra State Council referee over poor handling of a Nationwide League One (NLO) game in the state.
The match was between Oisa FC and Dom Daniel FC at the Awka Centre.
This was contained in a statement by Mohammed Ameenu, Chairman of NFF Referees’ Committee.
The affected Referee, Ignatius Nwanekwu and Chinoso Ezeh from the Anambra Referees Council, was found culpable of breaching the provisions of the Laws of the Game in an NLO encounter between Oisa FC and Dem Daniel FC played at the Awka Centre on Sunday, 4th May 2025.
The statement reads: ” Reference to your decisions that adversely affect not only the outcome of the match between Oisa FC and Dem Daniel FC, one of the NLO matches played at the Awka Centre on Sunday, 4th May 2025 wherein both of you took decisions that were not in line the provisions of the Laws of the Game.
“Such a glaring display of impunity did not only negatively affect the outcome of the match but equally brings the game to disrepute.
“I am, therefore, directed to notify you that you have been stepped down indefinitely and with immediate effect from the league.”
The decision has been copied to the President and General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation as well as the Chief Operating Officer of the NLO, reinforcing the seriousness of the matter.
This move underscores the Federation’s commitment to maintaining the integrity and credibility of football officiating across all levels of the game in Nigeria.
