The Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa , has called on the Nigerian youth to tap the potentials in digital literacy which avails them the opportunity to become self-employed and become employers of labour.
Kashifu made the call during the graduation ceremony of over 1,300 apprentices who participated in a digital literacy initiative organised by Engausa Hub, in partnership with the agency in Kano.
The director general who was chairman of the occasion, urged the youth to change their mindset on depending on white collar jobs, noting that neither the government nor corporate organisations could provide job for them.
He said, “This training is to promote digital literacy and digital job creation. Out of the 1,300, almost 30 per cent of them have started their own business and have more than 10 persons employed under them. We encourage more to join this kind of programme.
“We are working on crafting a talent strategy to harness the talents of our youths. Because when you talk about digital economy, the currency of digital economy is data and youthful population. We have the two in Nigeria.”
Earlier, the founder of Engausa Hub, Mustapha Habu Ringim, said it had assisted about 1,700 youth, including Almajiri children to discover their talents and potentials.
