Nigeria’s inflation dropped to 22.22% in June – NBS

Nigeria’s headline inflation rate has declined to 22.22 per cent in June 2025, down from 22.97 per cent recorded in May 2025.

This is according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Wednesday.

The latest figure represents a 0.75 percentage point decrease, signaling a modest slowdown in the pace of rising consumer prices across the country.

According to NBS “In June 2025, the Headline inflation rate eased to 22.22 percent relative to the May 2025 headline inflation rate of 22.97 percent. 

“Looking at the movement, the June 2025 Headline inflation rate showed a decrease of 0.75 percent compared to the May 2025 Headline inflation rate.

“Inflation rate for June 2025 declined to 22.22 per cent, a decrease of 0.75 percentage points from 22.97 per cent in May 2025, marking the third consecutive month of decline since April 2025. However, food inflation, while also declining month-on-month, saw an increase in its year-on-year rate to 21.97 per cent.”

The NBS current CPI  released on Wednesday showed that the food inflation rose to 21.97 per cent  in June 2025, an increase from 21.14% in May 2025.

NBS attributed increase in food inflation to higher average prices for items such as green peas (dried), pepper (fresh), shrimps (white dried), crayfish, meat (fresh), tomatoes (fresh), plantain flour, and ground pepper.

It said that this decline in headline inflation in June 2025 is the third consecutive monthly decrease.
