Nigerian stocks extend gains as market cap rises by N153bn

The Nigerian equity market sustained its positive growth on Friday with the All Share Index appreciating by 243.50 basis points to close at 109710.14 points from 109467.64 reported the previous day.

The upward growth trajectory in the market was bolstered by easing inflation figures, strong buying interest in key stocks across various sectors.

Positive market sentiment was significantly influenced by robust buying activity in the shares of Betaglass, AccessCorp, Northern Nigeria Flour Mills, Wapco, Honey Well Flour Mills, Nahco, Fidson healthcare among others.

The market breadth remained positive, with 36 stocks recording gains compared to 21 companies that experienced losses, indicating broad investor confidence.

Consequently, the Year-to-Date (YTD) return on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX) increased to 6.59 per cent.

The market capitalisation also expanded by  0.22 per cent to reach N68.953 trillion, translating to a substantial N153 billion  increase in the overall wealth of investors.

An analysis of the investment showed that Four companies appreciated with 10 per cent during the day.

Northern Nigeria Flour Mills, Trans Express, champion Breweries and Honey Well Flour led the gainers table with 10 per cent each to close at N109.00, N2.00, N6.20 and N16.50 per unit, respectively, Betaglass followed with a gain of 9.91 per cent to close at N213.70 per shares.

On the contrary, International General Insurance topped losers chart, dropping by 9.57 per cent to close at N1.70 per unit, Multiverse trailed with a loss of 9.55 per cent to close at N8.05 per unit.TIP down by 7.86 per cent to close at N6.80 per share, UPL declined by 7.37 per cent to close at N4.40 per unit, Regal Insurance depreciated by 6.78 per cent to close at N0.55 per share.

Transactions in the shares of AccessCorp led market activities with 32.047 million shares valued at N739.660 million, GTCO Plc followed with account of 30.873 million shares cost N2.094 billion , AIICO Insurance traded 28.931 million shares valued at N46.449 million, Universal insurance exchanged 25.013 million shares worth N13.032 million while Chams Plc traded 23.814 million shares valued at N54.232 million.
