A renowned peace and development advocate, Abubakar Duduwale, has announced plans to embark on an 800-kilometre peace trek from Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, to Kahutu village in Katsina State.

The journey, scheduled to begin on Sunday, July 20, 2025, is expected to last approximately two weeks. Duduwale, popularly known as the World Trekker for Peace, aims to use the trek to engage Nigerians on the importance of individual contributions toward peace and national development.

Speaking during a press briefing on Saturday in Yola, Duduwale explained that Kahutu was chosen as his destination because it is the birthplace of popular singer Dauda Kahutu Rarara, whom he praised for promoting peace and development through his music.

“Rarara is a symbol of peace through his songs,” Duduwale said, adding that he plans to spread a message of peace and unity to people he meets along the route.

At 53, Duduwale is no stranger to long-distance treks. In 2016, he famously attempted a Nigeria-to-London walk to raise awareness about the devastating impacts of terrorism. A year earlier, in 2015, he trekked from Yola to Abuja in support of then-President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I have trekked round the 19 northern states of Nigeria promulgating the gospel of peace and war against terrorism, insurgency, corruption, drug abuse as well as promoting unity,” Duduwale once said, adding that his first trek began in 2008 when he walked from his village in Ganye to the Nigeria-Cameroon border.

Duduwale emphasized that his treks are never for fun but serve as advocacy missions for global peace and social awareness.

A native of Ganye in southern Adamawa, Abubakar Duduwale currently resides in Yola. He hinted that additional peace treks to other regions are in the pipeline as he continues to push for a more united and progressive Nigeria.
