The Nigerian Aquatics Federation (NAqF) is set to host a Level 1 Swimming Coaches Certification course from March 12 to 15, 2025, at the National Stadium Surulere Lagos, Nigeria.

According to Hon. Chief Chinonye Daphne Aliyu, President of the NAqF, “The four-day intensive capacity building program will provide participants with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills necessary to effectively train and nurture young swimmers.”

Chief Aliyu stated that the course aims to develop grassroots swimming talent and enhance coaching standards nationwide.

“We are committed to empowering coaches with the right knowledge and skills to raise the overall standard of swimming competitions in Nigeria,” she said.

The course will be facilitated by certified international and national swimming experts and is targeted at swimming coaches, physical education teachers, and swimming trainers and lifeguards.

Chief Aliyu emphasised that “coaches will gain hands-on experience and access to cutting-edge coaching methodologies, allowing them to develop structured training programs tailored to various age groups and skill levels.”

To be eligible for registration, she said, interested participants must have passed the intermediary levels 3 and 2.

Chief Aliyu encouraged interested participants to register early, as slots are limited.

Registration details and further information are available on the NAqF’s official website and social media channels.

Chief Aliyu expressed gratitude to the National Sports Commission for its support.

“We appeal to the media to help amplify the message, ensuring it reaches all corners of the nation, as we work to build a stronger, more vibrant swimming ecosystem in Nigeria,” she said.

The NAqF President emphasised the importance of well-trained coaches in the development of swimming in Nigeria.

“We firmly believe that well-trained coaches are the backbone of any successful sports development program,” she said.

The Level 1 Swimming Coaches Certification course is designed to equip coaches with the necessary skills and knowledge to identify and nurture young swimming talents, promote water safety awareness, and enhance their career prospects.

Chief Aliyu noted that the certification course will enable coaches to inspire confidence among parents and guardians, and strengthen collaboration between schools, sports clubs, and community programs.

“The NAqF is committed to developing swimming talent in Nigeria and enhancing coaching standards nationwide,” she said.
