Niger to spend N3bn on Minna – Suleja road

Niger state government has awarded the contract for the construction of selected part of the Minna – Suleja road at the sum of N3 billion, the state Commissioner of Works, Ibrahim Balarabe, has said. The commissioner disclosed this yesterday in a press conference in Minna, adding that the portion of the road affected was from Lambata to Minna. He explained that, initially, the Kwakuti – Lambata part of the road was awarded by the state government at the cost of N1.2 billion, adding that the government had to award the remaining portion to Minna when it discovered that the federal government Sukkuk work does not cover the entire length of the road.
He said, “although we have received letter from the presidency that federal government will no longer refund money spent on its roads by the state government unless with a waiver from President Muhammadu Buhari, we have to consider the plight of motorists on the Minna – Suleja road in ensuring its speedy completion before the rains set in. We hope that the presidency will give us waiver and refund to us this money at the appropriate time.” Balarabe said the government has also made provision for the construction of five township roads in Minna metropolis, adding that the road projects have been captured in the 2018 budget
