In line with the earlier announcement by the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) on the cover price increase of newspapers, the Management of Blueprint Newspapers Ltd has resolved to change the cover prices of its titles with effect from tomorrow, January 4, 2024.
NPAN had earlier issued a statement that its members would adjust the cover prices from January 2, 2024.
In the statement signed by its Executive Secretary, Mr. Feyi Smith, NPAN explained that the inflation and devaluation of the naira in the last few years have had very serious and negative effects on its members’ operational costs, consequently eaten deeply into their profit margins.
It also noted that notwithstanding the challenges, its members had retained the current cover price for over four years, while inflation had doubled within the same period.
And announcing the change in cover prices in a statement Tuesday in Abuja, the management of Blueprint Newspapers Limited said the new cover prices of its daily and weekend titles will now go for ₦250 as against the current price of ₦200.
Similarly, Manhaja, the Hausa vernacular paper, will sell for ₦200 instead of the current price of ₦150.
The newspaper agents and distributors have been duly informed before the changes were effected.
“It is our hope that this price increase would meet with the understanding of our readers even as we continue to do our best by taking advantage of technology and better collaboration amongst publishers, to improve the quality of our products,” the NPAN statement added.
