In a strong collaborative effort to combat drug and substance abuse, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Office of the First Lady of Lagos state, and the Lagos State University (LASU), weekend, organised a sensitisation walk and lecture at Ojo, Lagos.
The event was held as part of activities marking the 2025 International Day Against Drug and Substance Abuse, aim at educating students, the university community, and the general public on the dangers of illicit drugs.
The initiative aligns with this year’s global theme, “The evidence is clear, invest in prevention,” accompanied by the slogan: “Break the cycle, prevention, treatment and recovery for all.”
The first lady of Lagos state, Dr. Ibijoke Claudiana Sanwo-Olu, addressed the students, urging them to steer clear of drug and substance abuse.
She emphasised the importance of focusing on their studies to become productive citizens and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development.
Similarly, the state Commander of NDLEA Lagos State Strategic Command, Abubakar Liman Wali, issued a stern warning to the students. He implored them to shun illicit drug trafficking and all forms of substance abuse to ensure the university community remains safe from crime and criminalities.
The event, which saw the participation of the university community, students, and residents from the Ojo local government area, featured a four-kilometre walk. The walk culminated in a public lecture designed to deepen understanding and awareness of drug-related issues.
