NDLEA arrests 13,664, convicts 3,412 drugs baron in one year 

The National Drugs Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Thursday, stated that it arrested 13,664 suspected drug barons and convicted 3,412 drug barons in the last one year.

The agency further stated that a total of 1,606,799.1kg of drugs were seized within the period covered. 

These were contained in the information made available to Blueprint by the director of media and advocacy, Femi Babafemi, on the summary of arrests, seizures, prosecutions and DDRs from January to December 2023.

He analysed that a total of 13, 664 arrest was recorded in which 3,412 suspected drugs baron were convicted. Others include  a

seizure of 1,606,799.1KG with counseled and rehabilitated  10,9 904 addicted drugs users as well as public enlightenment of  987,776 and farm destruction of  206.46724 hectares under the period reviewed. 

While also in January and February 2024 with all indication, the agency made a robust achievement on arrest with 50, 901 suspects including 46 barons, while there was conviction of over 9, 034 offenders and a total seizure of 7, 560,748.5 Kgs of assorted illicit substances recorded.

Others included are destruction of 1,057.33348 hectares of cannabis farms and treatment of 32, 402 drug users while a total of 12, 908  cases are still pending.
