The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Kano state has urged unemployed graduates in the state to embrace farming in order to become self-reliant. NDE state Coordinator, Malam Aliyu Abubakar, made the call at a one day induction workshop organized by the directorate for 20 selected graduates under its Graduates Attachment Programme (GAP) in Kano.
He said the call was necessary in view of the high rate of unemployment among the youth and the current economic hardship in the country.
He said “the history of unemployment can be traced back to neglect of the agricultural sector following the advent of the oil boom.
According to him, the programme was designed to attach graduates to willing institutions and organizations for a period of six months for practical on-the-job exposure.
In his remark, the director special Public Works represented by Engr Okun Tony charged the participants to be good ambassadors of the NDE.
