NCC puts revenue target for 2014 at N54.4bn

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has put its 2014 revenue target at N54.4 billion.
Executive Vice Chairman of the commission, Mr. Eugene Juwah,who made this known in a statement in Abuja gave the break down of the revenue target, “the sum of N14.8 billion would be earmarked as recurrent capital in the month of May, 2014, while capital and special expenditure is put at N15.8 billion.

According to him, N8.4 billion would be transferred to the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), while about N7.4 billion and N8.0 billion representing spectrum fees and operating surplus respectively, would be transferred to federal government coffers.
Juwah hinted that this was in conformity with the orders passed on to all federal government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), mandating them to ensure that their individual organisational strategic focus are in line with the Nigeria’s vision 20:2020 and in the medium term and with the national transformation agenda 2011-2015.

He said the commission is working to ensure that this forms the bedrock of its strategic focus.
“The policy thrust of the commission for the 2014 budget is still derived from the strategic focus of the commission 2012-2015, to ensure improvement in the quality of service across telecoms networks.The plan us to provide an enabling environment for nationwide fibre optic transmission infrastructure to facilitate upgrading of information and communications technological structures in the country, increase in broadband access nationwide with a view to applying the Open Access Model (OAM),” Juwah said. He added that infrastructure development, qualitative regulations/compliance monitoring and enforcement, development of enabling environment for secure information security that will promote integrity of e-transaction.
