The  Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja, Professor Salisu Usman Ogbo, has revealed that the  National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has  accredited 47 programmes, including some backlogged applications dating back to 2009 at the institution.

Professor Ogbo, disclosed this on Tuesday in his office  while giving account of his leadership at the  2025 Stewardship Forum organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi state council.

According to him, the newly established school of agricultural technology at Itakpe campus of the Polytechnic which offers four programmes namely;  Agricultural Technology, Animal Health and Production Technology, Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Technology, and Horticulture and Landscape Technology have been accredited.

“So far so good all the courses offered in the institution both at National Diploma and Higher National Diploma were fully accredited by the NBTE,” he said.

Speaking on quick release of student’s results after examination, the Rector said “Constitution of Academic Board Central Results Verification Committee, leading to proper scrutiny of results, cost effectiveness, and reduction in time wastage at the Academic Board meetings; Introduction of Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the conduct of the General Studies and other examinations with large classes, which has curbed unethical practices and ensured prompt release of results”.

He  added that,  to tackle  fake result, the institution  had  also provided new statement of result template with additional security features against falsification and also E-results computation and display of semester results online for students.

Speaker further, the Rector stated that the institution through the commitment of the  management and in collaboration with some students they were able  to combat cultism, exam fraud, and certificate racketeering which hitherto gives the institution bad name.

“On my  assumption of office in 2020, I inherited a Polytechnic where students earned certificates from fraudulent syndicates who forged and sold our certificates to students and non students.

“It was so bad that, after admission, students who are expected to sit down and learn preferred to patronise the syndicates to get high  grade.

“Similarly, student cultism was the order of the day in this institution which we fought headlong to eradicate completely from the Polytechnic. I also faced lecturers who profited from producing books and made it compulsory for students to purchase or fail examination and today such behaviour does not exist in this institution again” he said.

Earlier in his speech , the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of  NUJ, Kogi State Council, Segun Ademola  Salami, disclosed that the programme was put in place enable elected and appointed public office holders to inform Nigerians on what they have done with the mandate entrusted on them.

He thanked the Rector  and the management staff for their cooperation and for taking the Polytechnic to another level of development.
