The Oyo state director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Akanbi Aderogba, Wednesday identified national values charter as a panacea for lasting peace in Nigeria.

Mr Aderogba stated this in Ibadan while speaking through head, Media and Communication, Oyo state NOA, Alhaji Isiaka Kehinde, at a stakeholders meeting on National Peace and Transformation.

He pointed out that Nigerians need one another for growth and development, adding, “It takes three Europeans to build a great nation.”

Mr Aderogba said there is the need for everyone to fulfill its own end of the bargain as stated in the national value system.

“With the government fulfilling its own part, particularly in the areas of peace/ security , freedom/ justice  inclusivity, meritocracy, equality,  democracy and entrepreneurship,  it behoves on citizens too to live to their own expectations, most especially the citizens code of tolerance and respect,  resilience,  and duty of care,” he said.

He added that the government’s effort according to security matrix has resulted in cushioning the effect of Boko haram insurgency, decrease in banditry and enhanced security operations.

The NOA director charged Nigerians to support government saying, “the balls are in their courts to support government as a pathway to lasting peace. We need Nigerians to build a greater Nigeria.”

Convener of the program, Wale Adewumi, in his remarks, said the essence of the program is not a form of lending political support to any party or discredit the government, but to make a statement on how Nigeria will move forward and put insurgency, banditry and other security challenges behind.

“We all have roles to play individually. Business of peace is everybody’s business. When bad men combine, the good must associate, else they will fall one by one as  sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.
