National Sports Festival: Enugu to feature 70 athletes in 9 games

Seventy athletes and 18 technical crew will feature in the forthcoming National Sports Festival (NSF) taking place in Ogun state, come May 16 to 30, 2025.

The Enugu state Director of Sports, Mr. Boniface Onovoh, disclosed this on Thursday when the Unity Torch for the Festival arrived Enugu.

Onovoh also disclosed that the state will participate in nine games at the Festival, pointing out that the athletes and their technical crew have been motivated for the games with a view to winning laurels.

“We shall participate in nine events where we have comparative advantage to excell.  Our athletes have been off camp and by next week, we shall enter into the main camp officially.

“We have put measures in place to inspire our athletes to perform; we gave them camp allowance, equipment and we have motivated them,” he said.

Onovoh pointed out that in order for the athletes and the technical crew to be at their best, any athlete that wins a Gold Medal will get N100,000 cash.

“This one is not being your account number, once you get Gold Medal, you come and collect cash.  We are not giving any money for Silver or Bronze but Gold Medal,” he emphasised.

Governor Peter Mbah who received the Unity Torch on behalf of Enugu state, said the state would be highly represented at the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival taking place in Ogun state.

Mbah, represented by the Commissioner for Sports, Lloyd Ekweremadu, said the state have ready athletes and technical crew for the Games.

“Over the years, Enugu State had actively participated.  In this 22nd edition, we are glad to say that Enugu State will be highly represented.  We have a highly motivated contingent and very ready athletes and technical crew and we look forward to participate in the event.  We are even more honoured that we shall host the next festival,” he said.
