Nasarawa government tasks parents on families bond

Nasarawa state government has called on residents of the state to continue to promote peace and build a stronger bond among families to enhance unity and economic stability of the country.

The commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Rufa’i Ibrahim, made the call during a press briefing in Lafia on the sideline of this year’s International Day of the Families.

She noted that the state government would continue to explore diverse ways in areas of collaboration with relevant agencies to enhance the value and well-being of families.

“The 15th day of May every year is set aside by the United Nations as International Day of the Families to promote family prosperity and raise awareness about the social, monetary, and demographic transformation that influences families.

Rufa’i said government is developing an action plan aimed at engaging women in the campaign against the effects of climate change, as part of steps toward entrenching peace and economic stability in the families.

She explained that the impact of climate change including extreme heat, unpredictable weather conditions and floods poses a great danger to the unity and economic stability of the family, hence the need for collective action against the phenomenon.

She emphasized that women have a greater role to play in mitigating the impact of climate change given their resilient disposition, dedication and determination to achieve a course.

The commissioner, therefore, sought the collaboration of the media towards promoting the positive values and virtues inherent in our unique families.
