Nasarawa assembly speaker inaugurates 5th children’s parliament

Speaker Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Danladi Jatau, has inaugurated the 5th Nasarawa state children’s parliament with representatives from the 13 local government of the state

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony on Wednesday, in Lafia, the Speaker said their early participation in the democratic process would enable them imbibe the democratic culture which was good for the sustenance of democracy in the country.

He explained that the parliament was the demonstration of building the capacity of the youth in strengthening democracy in the state and the country at large.

He urged the parliament to perfect the act of parliamentary engagement as legislature remained the bedrock of democracy.

“On this note, I want to declare the 5th Nasarawa state children’s parliament open,” he said.

Jatau charged the children to use the parliament to inform and educate other children including adults, parents, teachers, local and state governments, about their issues and concerns.

Speaking, the Commissioner for Woman Affairs, Aisha Rufa’i, charged the children to take the programme with all seriousness.

Rufa’i said the children are special individuals and promised to give them a motherly support for the smooth running of their affairs in thststate.

The Speaker Children’s Parliament Nasarawa state, Mary Osanadi, thanked the government for its support and pledged that the children would use the opportunity granted to them to advance democracy and good governance.

She noted that they would ensure the rights of every Nasarawa child were protected.
